Dear Son Valley Emmaus Community

May Jesus be the centre of our communities in 2012.  We thank your board for this opportunity to invite you to participate in our 4^th Day Ministry of taking God’s healing love to those in prison and their families on the outside.

A Kairos weekend is similar to an Emmaus Walk and was born out of Emmaus when, in 1976, some 4^th Day pilgrims heard God’s calling to visit the prisons (Matt. 25: 34 – 40).  Today the Kairos weekend is held in 16 South African and over 300 prisons worldwide.  In the Eastern and Southern suburbs of Johannesburg, we have the opportunity to extend Kairos weekends in Boksburg, Nigel and Johannesburg prison.   Kairos teams need volunteers that have been pilgrims on Emmaus, or similar 3-day weekends, so that they understand the unfolding journey of meeting and travelling with Jesus.

We are appealing for volunteers to join our 2012 teams.  Attached are details of some Kairos weekends in your area.  Team formation meetings comprise about 6 Saturday mornings, a 3-day weekend on ministry and 1 Saturday morning per month for 6 months, following the Kairos weekend.

Each team requires 33 persons of the same sex/gender as the participants and 12 persons to provide support through logistics, cooking and prayer.  Kairos volunteers are real people like you and I, dealing with life in Johannesburg.

Come and join us in a life-changing journey with Jesus, as we scatter the seeds of His Word in an unlikely field.  (Matt. 13: 3 – 9 and 18 – 23).

Please read the attached weekend program prayerfully.  Kairos is not for everyone and there are many wonderful opportunities to serve God that are offered through your churches.  If you hear God calling, (1 Sam. 3: 3 – 11), please contact our weekend leaders.  I know that they would love to hear from you and get some support achieving God’s purpose through Kairos.
